Glossary of Sanskrit Terms
Mahendranath Gupta, one of the householder disciples of Sri Ramakrishna; and recorder of the original Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna in Bengali, wrote under the pen name of 'M'. A teacher by profession, 'M' was often addressed by Sri Ramakrishna and others as 'master'. Mada - Arrogance; pride.

Malaya breeze - According to an ancient belief in India, the breeze blowing from the legendary Malaya mountains turns all trees and plants that have a core into sandalwood.
Mahapurush Maharaj - Swami Shivananda (1854-1934), a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna who was popularly known by this name. Mahapurush means 'great soul' and Swamis are also addressed as Maharaj, which literally means 'a great king' or 'emperor'.

Mrityunjaya - Conqueror of death.
Mukti - Final beatitude.
Mula - Origin; root; base.
Muladhara Chakra - The spiritual centre at the base of the spinal column.
